By now you must’ve surely come across the .webp extension when you’ve tried to save a photo from a web page. WebP is an image format developed by tech giant Google particularly for web use. These files have the benefit of being considerably smaller in size than the classic JPG’s (between 25-34% smaller) at equivalent image quality. Their advanced compression algorithms make them optimal for improving the loading time of a website.
WebP has many advantages over JPG, but at the same time it has one major disadvantage: compatibility. JPG enjoys universal support, which means it can be used on any operating system, browser or platform that’s allowing users to upload images. Moreover, it can be viewed and edited on any photo processing software. Unfortunately this is not the case for WebP. At least not at the moment. Progress has been made, and the support for the format has broaden, but there are still compatibility issues with certain devices, platforms and photo editors. In such situations it becomes mandatory to convert your files to a commonly-used format.
Below you can find a list of 10 tools you can use to convert WebP to JPG on Windows.
Photos
Since we’re talking about Windows, why not start off with the built-in Photos app? The app has gradually improved its support for image files over the years and now it allows users to import even modern formats like WebP. The conversion process is pretty simple: open the selected picture in Photos, right click anywhere on the picture and select Save as (or simply use Ctrl+S) and then choose JPG from the drop-down menu. And that’s it.
The Photos app represents a viable solution as long as you need to occasionally convert one or two WebP files. In case you’re dealing with multiple files that require conversion, it’s best to opt for a software with batch processing capabilities.
BatchPhoto
BatchPhoto is a photo editor designed to batch convert and edit images. The tool provides support for a large variety of formats, including RAW and next-gen images like HEIC, AVIF and of course WebP. Converting hundreds of pictures from one format to another is quite easy thanks to the intuitive, three-step interface: add your WebP photos in the first step, edit them as you please in the second (optionally) and choose your output format in the third step, JPG in our particular case.
In addition to converting images, BatchPhoto can also be used to optimize and enhance them. The tool offers numerous built-in filters to resize, crop, rotate, watermark and date stamp photos, as well as adjust the contrast, brightness and saturation and apply artistic effects to them. To boost your productivity even further, you can save your configuration as a profile and reuse it in another session. You can also apply a custom profile directly from the Windows Explorer contextual menu and securely upload the processed images to your server using SFTP.
Pricing
BatchPhoto comes with a fully-featured trial version which applies a watermark to your processed images. The tool offers three paid editions, each with a lifetime license:
- Home: $29.95
- Pro: $49.95
- Enterprise: $129.95
PhotoMarks
PhotoMarks is a tool created to watermark and convert images in bulk. The editor allows you to import various image formats, ranging from RAW to WebP, and export them as JPG, PNG or perhaps TIFF. You can even compile a multi-page PDF document from a set of photos. The user interface is straightforward and easy to navigate. Once you’ve loaded your files, all that’s left to do is go to Setup and, in the Output Format section, select JPG from the drop-down menu. Next simply hit the Process button.
If you want to perform other operations, the app gives you the opportunity to protect your photographs by applying a fully customizable text or logo watermark. You can also resize, crop and rotate your pictures, as well as decorate them with frames and borders. To improve your workflow you have the possibility to save your settings for later use. In terms of exporting, you have multiple options: save the converted pictures on a local folder, upload them to SFTP or share them via email.

In the Edit tab, Pixillion Image Converter places at your disposal other features to resize, crop or flip images, watermark them, automatically adjust colors and contrast or apply filters and special effects. The editing options are more than enough, but the UI isn’t the most modern. There is a preview area available, but its size is rather small.
Pricing
The tool comes with a non-commercial, home use only version, but converting WebP files requires a paid plan. You can purchase Pixillion Image Converter by choosing one of the following options:
- Limited: $19.99
- Standard: $29.99
- Premium: $39.95
- Premium subscription: $3.33/month

Zamzar
Zamzar is a solution especially developed for batch converting various file types. Available as an online tool or a desktop app, Zamzar gives you the opportunity to convert audio files, videos, images, documents, e-books and more. In total there are more than 1.200 formats supported, including RAW files from popular digital cameras and modern ones like WebP.
The browser-based version represents an excellent alternative due to its ease of use and fast processing. All you have to do is click on three buttons: Choose Files, Convert to and Convert Now. That’s all there is to it. The desktop app is integrated with the Windows Explorer contextual menu, but it provides a limited number of conversions per day, according to your plan model.
On the downside you can’t perform any other edits to your images except convert them.
Pricing
The online edition of Zamzar offers a free, but restricted version. You can’t upload a file larger than 1 MB and can’t process more than 5 files at a time. In order to remove the limitations and convert an unlimited number of images you need to create an account and choose one of the following subscriptions:
- Basic: $18/month
- Pro: $30/month
- Business: $49/month
Convertio
Convertio is another cloud-based solution for bulk file conversion. This one too enables you to convert not only photos, but also videos, documents, archives, fonts, presentation or audio files, with support for 300+ formats.
The conversion process is quick and simple. Add your WebP images from your PC, Dropbox or Google Drive and, in the next stage, go to the bottom and click on Convert all to > Image > JPG. Next hit the Convert button and you’re good to go. Just like in the case of Zamzar, you can’t perform other operations to optimize or enhance your pictures.
Pricing
Convertio comes with a free version, which allows two concurrent conversions with a maximum file size of 100 MB. If you want to convert more files you’ll need to upgrade to one of the three paid plans:
- Light: $9.99/month
- Basic: $14.99/month
- Unlimited: $25.99/month
XnConvert
XnConvert enjoys compatibility with over 500 file formats and allows you to export to approximately 70 formats. The user interface is based on tabs, and if you only want to convert images you’ll have to deal with just two of them: Input and Output. Simply add your files in the first and then jump to the second where you can choose the output folder, the format and the quality settings of your JPG’s.
The program is packed with features, which you can find in the Actions tab. The problem is the cluttered design, which does take you back in time and makes it rather difficult to navigate through the available options. A useful feature is the fact that you can save your current settings and reuse the presets in other projects.
Pricing
XnConvert is provided free of charge for private or educational use. For commercial use you need to purchase a license:
- 1 license: $20.84
