How to Batch Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows

How to Batch Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows

HEIC is one of the next-gen image formats, along with WebP and AVIF. In 2017, Apple chose to replace JPG with HEIC as its default photo format. Why? Well, because it simply possesses many advantages: it’s considerably smaller in file size, it provides a higher image quality and it’s more versatile in comparison to JPG. You can find a complete guide about the format here.

HEIC may win the battle against JPG in certain areas, but there’s one key aspect where it falls short: compatibility. As opposed to JPG, which enjoys universal support, Apple’s image format suffers from compatibility issues. The situation has definitely improved in the past years, as more and more platforms and devices have embraced it, but things are far from ideal. On Windows, for instance, you can view this file type in the Photos app, but only after installing the HEIF image extensions from the Microsoft Store.

The Photos app does allow you to re-save the image as JPG to gain full compatibility across Windows software. And this is fine if you only need to change the format of one or two pictures every once in a while. But if you’re dealing with a larger group of photos that require conversion, it’s advisable to resort to a tool with batch processing capabilities like our own BatchPhoto.

BatchPhoto is a photo editor designed to edit and convert images in bulk. The tool can process hundreds of images simultaneously and it’s quite easy to use. All you have to do is follow a clear, three-step process: add your files, edit them as you please and choose the desired image format. Here’s how to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows in a quick and simple way.

Step 1

Once you open the app, the first step is to add your HEIC files. You can use drag & drop, click on Add Photos to add them individually or on the Add button to add an entire folder with our without subfolders.

Step 3

Once you’ve edited your images, click on Setup, the third and final step. This is where you convert HEIC images to JPG. In the Output Format section, the default option will be Keep original image format (if possible). Simply click on that and choose JPG as your output format. Additionally you can click the nearby Settings button for some compression options.

In the same step you’ll be able to select the destination of your converted files. You can save them on a local folder, upload them to a FTP server or send them via email.

Once you’re done, hit the Process button. The program will then automatically process all your images.

It’s worth mentioning that BatchPhoto offers an extra feature to boost your productivity even more. The program allows you to save your current configuration as a Profile and simply load it in another session. This way you’ll configure the tool to automatically apply preset edits, such as for instance watermarking, resizing and converting, to a new set of photos.
